OBITUARY

Donald Bruce Deierling

March 9, 1927October 1, 2013

Donald B. Deierling, 86, of Seattle, Washington drove his silver '63 Corvette of old off into the early morning of October 1, 2013 with a case of fine red wine in the boot, headed for heaven's gates. Don was born on March 9, 1927 in Chelan, Washington to Eric A. C. and Alice F. (Hoglund) Deierling. He graduated from Snohomish High School in 1945. He enlisted in the US Navy in that same year. In 1950 he graduated from Washington State College (University) with a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Don had a long career with Boeing working in Wichita, Philadelphia and the Puget Sound area on the B-52, 747 and many other projects. He retired in 1991. Don loved the outdoors. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed a good drive, equipped with driving gloves and hat. Late into his years he enjoyed bicycling, skiing and tending his dahlia garden. He loved a fine meal, fine wine and good company to share it with. He was always a gentleman and a gentleman he was to the end. In Don's rear view mirror he leaves behind his brother, Dale H. Deierling; nephews, Dale R. Deierling (Kathryn) and Dell A. Deierling (Renée); niece, Joni L. Siewert (Don); many beloved great nieces and nephews and extended family; cousins, Donna Robinett (Henry) and Marcelina Deierling (widow of Larry); and sister-in-law, Nola Schaus, all of Snohomish. A special thank you is extended to Don's lifelong friend Bob Carlson and his wife Mariellen for the care and friendship they provided him during his final lap. Services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5511 64th St SE, Snohomish. A reception will follow at the church. Memorials may be made in Don's name to: Mechanical and Materials Engineering Excellence Fund, WSU Foundation, PO Box 641925, Pullman, WA 99164-1925. I am so sad to hear that my sweet friend Don has passed. I have known him since 1989 where we worked together at Boeing. Since his retirement, he and i occasionally met for lunch and updates on each others lives. And of course we had to enjoy a nice glass of wine. He loved to tease me about my "immature palate" and tried to educate me on fine wines! I really loved Don and will miss him and our annual lunches! Rest in peace my friend!

Don was a wonderful brother in law, uncle and great uncle. He will always have a special place at our holiday tables and in our hearts.(forgive the "mush", Don) Love Nola

I just have to say that, as a young adult, I craved - I coveted (!) that impeccably-maintained Corvette. Don wisely told me that he was selling it to me because he couldn't stand to see it wrecked by a blonde twentysomething. He was a wise man! I will greatly miss his presence in my life.

Mr. Deierling was a long time supporter of The Salvation Army. Because of his gifts, we know many lives have been changed. We are fortunate to have been a recipient of his generosity. I can picture him waving goodbye as he ascends in his corvette.
