Ellen L. Mockas
January 24, 1920 – November 29, 2017
Ellen L. Mockas, age 97 of Fall River, passed away at her residence, Landmark Assisted care facility on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. She was the wife of the late Paul Mockas.
Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Paul T. and Florence L. (Sullivan) Gross, she was a lifelong area resident. She was a devoted member of Christ Church, Swansea for sixty three years, where she taught Sunday school, was a choir mother, as well as President and Treasurer of the Katherine Benedict Guild. Ellen was a graduate of Durfee High School, class of 1937, and a graduate of Herrick’s Academy business school. During WW2, she was employed as a stenographer at the Newport Naval Base, and at the Watertown Arsenal. She also worked as a baker at Fernandes Supermarket, and as a retail clerk at Edgar’s department store. She also served as a Rainbow Mother, and enjoyed traveling.
Ellen is survived by her daughter Priscilla Murphy and her husband James of Somerset, three grandchildren, Amy Murphy-St. Laurent of Assonet, Jill Buscaglia of Somerset and Dr. Kerry Benenato, of Sudbury, Ma., as well as six great grandchildren, Katie, Megan, Max, Zoe, Abigail and Henry, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also the sister of the late Pauline Matthew, the late Margaret Baker, and Theodore Gross.
Her funeral will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00AM at the Christ Church Cemetery, 57 Main Street, Swansea. Family and friends are invited.
