Marcelo Rosario Lazaro, age 88, of Somerset, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 18, 2021. He was the husband of the late Francisca (Dela Rama) Lazaro.

Born in Bocaue, Bulacan, Philippines, he was one of sixteen children born of the late Francisco and Anastacia (Del Rosario) Lazaro. He spent his youth in the Philippines where he attended school.

A career veteran of the United States Navy for 20 years, he proudly served during the Korean and Vietnam War. He was the proud owner of the Manila Jade Restaurant in Fall River for 14 years and made many friendships with his loyal customers. In his free time, his favorite hobbies included ballroom dancing, playing mahjong and an occasional visit to the local casinos.

His most favorite activities were the many gatherings with the entire family filled with love, laughter, and music. Marcelo was such a supportive force for his family and took great pleasure in surprising everyone with homemade Filipino meal deliveries. He is survived by his four children, Clair Kershaw and her husband James of Fall River (grandchildren Chad and Matthew Kershaw; great grandchildren Emily and Samuel Kershaw), Emmanuel Lazaro and his wife Elizabeth of Wellesley (grandchildren Andrew, William, Lauren and Gabrielle), Elroy Lazaro and his wife Kerry of Somerset (grandchildren Kelsie Pelli and Megan) and Edgar Lazaro and his wife Jennifer of Somerset (grandchildren Ethan and Noah); and many nieces and nephews.

His visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 5 to 8 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Due to current occupancy restrictions, please be mindful that guests may have to wait outside while others pay their respects. Due to restrictions on public gatherings, his funeral and burial will be private. We were so sad to hear about Ninong's passing. What an honor to have had a wonderful godfather all these years. My heart cherishes so many loving memories of him and Ninang, and the wonderful family they made together. I know they're dancing together now.
