Dorothy Therese Leavitt

She was born in Medford, MA on December 22, 1926 to her late parents Daniel and Helen (Hurley) Cronin and grew up in Lexington. Dorothy enrolled in the Cadet Nursing Program during WWII and was a graduate of Cambridge City School of Nursing in 1945. She was a Registered Nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital and later worked in nursing homes. When Dorothy married in 1951, she became a homemaker. In 1997 she moved to the Cape with her husband and they settled in Dennis.

Dorothy was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster. She was an active member in her church, participated in the Ladies Guild and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul. Dorothy was also a reading tutor for the Ezra Baker School in Dennis and had a passion for gardening

Dorothy is survived by and will be deeply missed by her children William Leavitt and wife Jean of Stoneham; Mary Petersen and husband Richard of Greenfield; Susan Schneider and husband Bruce of Brewster and daughter-in-law Holly Leavitt of Tewksbury. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son James Leavitt.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Cape Church located at 468 Stony Brook Rd in Brewster, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne where Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband James at 1:15 p.m.
