Evelyn Gertrude Jeffries
July 19, 1933 – June 1, 2018
Evelyn Gertrude Jeffries, of Lehighton, formerly of Southampton, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, at her home. She was 84 years old.
Born in Abington, Evelyn spent most of her life in Southampton until moving to Lehighton in 1991. She married Russell Jeffries in 1952 and was fortunate to have a wonderful, loving marriage for 66 years.
Evelyn loved her family and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and shared many cherished memories with them during the summer vacations spent in the mountains.
While living in the mountain house the past twenty-eight years, Evelyn enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, bears, deer and all that nature had to offer outside her window.
Evelyn and Russell loved the outdoors. She loved camping and fishing and shared her love of nature with her grandchildren. She loved to cook for the family and was very skilled at sewing.
Evelyn was dedicated to community service. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and answered the phone at Southampton Fire Department and dispatched engines before the days of 911.
Evelyn will be remembered for her positive outlook on life. She was always happy and saw the good in everything. Her sweet, loving spirit will always be with those who loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Russell W. Jeffries, her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Robin Jeffries, her daughter, Patricia Wolbert, her son, Ronald Jeffries, her six grandchildren; Tamara Wolbert, Tracey Wolbert, Trisha (Justin) Zellers, Katelyn Jeffries, Ryan (Jocelyn) Jeffries and Tiffany Wolbert, her three great-grandchildren; Vincent, Gemma and Skylar and her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Betty Croft.
She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Donald and Denise Jeffries, her grandchildren; Allison, Gregory and Isabelle and her great-grandchildren; Molly and Jaden.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Gathering on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 10-11am at Wm. Rowen-Grant Funeral Home in Southampton, followed by a Memorial Service at 11am.
