Guss G. Nevelos

Guss George Nevelos, 98, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away February 7, 2021 at the HoCC at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret (Kane) Nevelos. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary last May.

Guss was born in Torrington on February 22, 1922, the son of the late Frank and Barbara (Dohonoyos) Nevelos. The family moved to Plainville when Guss was 5 years old. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1940. He retired from Airpak in Cheshire and worked for Allied Control Co. in Plantsville, Revere Co. in Wallingford, and Hart Manufacturing in Hartford.

Gus was a veteran of the U.S. Navy proudly serving his country during WW II. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church, a member of the Plantsville Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years, a member of the Democratic Town Committee, and was a Southington Fire Commissioner. In addition to his wife, he leaves 2 sons, Richard and wife Ann of Vernon and Mark "Dean" and wife Robin of Plantsville; 2 daughters Lisa Arena and Karen Jones and her husband Tom of Plantsville; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three brothers and their sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Face coverings are mandatory. Social distancing and capacity limitations will be observed. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Thomas Church or the Plantsville Fire Dept., 130 West Main St., Plantsville, CT 06479.
