He was born in Southport, NC on August 19, 1937 the son of the late, Albert Glenworth Trunnell, Sr. and Myrtle Reynolds Trunnell and was preceded in death by a sister, Janice T. Sillery.
Mr. Trunnell was a native of Southport and attended Southport High School and was a graduate in 1955.
He attended North Carolina State University before entering the United States Army and serving in Europe. He completed his degree at East Carolina University. Al married Betty and returned to the Southport area in 1970. He worked at Security Savings and Loan as an appraiser and worked his way up to president and chairman of the board for many years until his retirement. He prided himself on being a true community banker and helping people. He was very active in his community and was a member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Lieutenant and treasurer. He was a charter member of the Molasses Creek Yacht Club and spent many hours fishing and shrimping with family and friends, and was well known around the Southport Waterfront. After his retirement he spent time with his wife doing projects around the house and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Trunnell of the home; two sons, Glenn Trunnell and his wife, Amy of Pittsboro, NC and Eric Trunnell and his wife, Rhonda of Raleigh, NC; four grand-daughters, Elsa, Mara, Madelyn and Mina.
Graveside service will held ten thirty in the morning on Monday October 8, 2018 in Northwood Cemetery by Reverend Gene Tomlinson officiating.
