Mr. Dingwall was born March 23, 1943 to the late Eugene Paul Dingwall, Sr. and Nellie Shaw Dingwall. He was a retired train engineer, having worked for Amtrak, Norfolk & Western, and Norfolk & Southern. Gene loved driving trains, boating, golfing, swimming, fishing, and hunting, having been a member of the Jamestown Hunting Club. Gene will be remembered as a man's man, a loving husband and father. Mr. Dingwall was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island, where he attended Sunday School, and had a great love for singing in the choir.
Survivors include his wife Rita Dingwall; two daughters, Debra Stephenson and husband Eric, and Dawn Dingwall and husband Andy Alford; a step-son Dan Ingram and wife Erin; a step-daughter Susan Majors and husband Butch; a brother Budd Dingwall and wife Meg; a sister Sandra Kleinschmit; three grandchildren, Alan Ramsey, Joey Lynch, and Meghan Harmon; a great-grandchild, Autumn Ramsey; eight step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and his former wife and mother to his children Nancy Williams.
Mr. Dingwall was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Paul Dingwall, III; a step-son Mike Ingram; and a step-daughter Lori Brown.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island with Pastor Charlie Carter officiating. The family will have visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Gene may be made to First Baptist Church of Oak Island, Building Fund, 4608 E Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465.
