Henry B. Meyer, 91, of Oak Ridge, NJ passed away at home surrounded by his family on August 18, 2013. Henry was born in East Prussia, Germany and came to the US at the age of 4 in 1926. He was a PFC First Class in the 137th Combat Infantry of the US Army who were part of the third wave during the Invasion of Normandy. He was a Purple Heart and 2 time Bronze Star Recipient. He worked at Picatinny Arsenal as a machinist for over 32 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Post 423 in Milton, NJ where he was a life member, Vice Commander and Historian and tended bar for many years. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Victoria (nee Kohler) Meyer. He is survived by his devoted children: Henry and his wife Diane, Ron and his wife Lynn, and John. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday, August 22nd, 2013 from 2-4, 7-9pm at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871 where there will be an American Legion Service at 7:30PM. A funeral service will be held at 10am Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors.
