December 29, 1931 – September 1, 2018
Jack Driscoll was born in Boston, December 29, 1931, to Jim and Mary Driscoll, both of whom had emigrated from Ireland. He was the oldest of five children; the others were his brother Jim and sisters Barbara, Rita and Mary. His sister Mary, the youngest, remains and lives in Arlington, Massachusetts. It was growing up in Boston that he formed his love for the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots. Jack graduated from St. Clement’s High School in Medford, Massachusetts in 1949, then attended Northeastern University for two years, playing on the football team. He then joined the Air Force, serving in Europe during the Korean War. There he gained experience in radio and electronics, leading to his eventual thirty-six-year career with IBM. At IBM, Jack travelled the world, going to London, Paris, Germany and Japan many times. He worked mostly from Kingston, New York. His many projects included working on the Gemini and Apollo missions, working with the FAA, helping develop the first supermarket scanners, as well as the first ATM machines, and developing graphic design systems. He was transferred to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1978, where he retired in 1993. He moved to Spokane, Washington on December 29, 2015, to be closer to family. Jack raised five children with his wife Edythe – his daughter Debby Moore, and his sons Bob Moore, Pete Moore, Jack Driscoll and Glenn Driscoll. His remaining children, Bob (Joan) and Jack (Julie), live in Newcomb, New York, and Spokane, Washington, respectively. He had nine grandchildren – Bobby, Matt, Brian, Melissa, Jennifer, Jessica, Bryce, Andrew and Kate. He has one great-granddaughter Delilah. Jack is saving places in heaven for his coffee crew at Bruegger’s Bagels in Charlotte. He still has a pocketful of unredeemed coupons to use. We also wish to thank the wonderful staff at Touchmark in Spokane for the loving care they provided. Services are scheduled for October 22, 2018, at 10 am, at St. Eulalia’s Church in Winchester, Massachusetts, and he will be laid to rest by his parents at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, Massachusetts.
