Charles W. Tomlinson

Charles W. Tomlinson, 81, of Springfield, died at 12:03 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at his residence with his wife at his side. Charles was born February 7, 1923 in Biwabik, MN, the son of Charles W. and Ellen Gurney Tomlinson. He married Florence Fox, February 27, 1944 in Madison, WI. Mr. Tomlinson was an honor’s graduate in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1944. Following a long career of business management in chemical related industries, he retired from the Illinois State Division of Consumer Credit where he was employed for 15 years. He was a member of Railsplitter’s Sertoma Club and was active for many years in the Lake Shore Improvement Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Charles Douglas Tomlinson, and brother, John F. Tomlinson. He is survived by his wife: Florence of Springfield, two sons: Douglas F. (wife, Linda) Tomlinson of Waunakee, WI, Gregory C. (wife, Margo) Tomlinson, M.D. of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters: Judy Rusch of San Antonio, TX, Pamela Tomlinson of Washington D.C.; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister: Doris Hamby of Port Townsend, WA; sister-in-law: Consuelo Tomlinson of San Juan, Puerto Rico, sister-in-law Marion Mongue of Lake Zurich, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A visitation will be from 4-6:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Cremation accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, An additional gathering will be held at the Tomlinson’s home for family and close friends at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2004. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Racine, WI will be at a later date.
