

She was born February 18, 1933 in St. Louis MO, the daughter of Milton and Edith Susman. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. William B. Lazarus, her two sons, Norman R. “Rob” (wife Caryl) of St. Louis, MO, and Jonathan M Lazarus of Denver, CO., her daughter, Elizabeth L. (husband Derrick) Burger of St. Louis, MO., and four treasured grandchildren, Allison Marie Lazarus, Matthew Ryan Lazarus, Alexis Rose Burger and Maxwell Hensley Burger.
Marjie graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington University in St. Louis and then became the first female Director of Sports Publicity at a major university. She then went on to lead Washington University alumni development efforts. Upon moving to Springfield, Illinois she taught English at Springfield College in Illinois and served as the Public Relations Director for Goodwill Industries before her most esteemed role as mother of her three children. Her many academic and career achievements do not compare to her extraordinary talents as an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, wife, mother, grandma, Grammy, Nene and friend.
She was a member and served on the board of the Springfield Art Association, Temple B’rith Shalom and the Springfield YWCA. She was an active volunteer with the Relay for Life.
Marjie had an adventurous spirit, an infectious laugh and a love of life that will be remembered forever by her family and many treasured friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen Springfield, IL where visitation will be Thursday October 7, 2010 from 11:00 am until time of funeral services there at 1:00 pm. Rabbi’s Barry Marks and Michael Datz officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
