Long time Oxon Hill resident, Jack Fawsett passed away May 15, 2021 in Fairfax Virginia. Jack, born in Washington DC in 1929, was a graduate of Oxon Hill High, where he met his future bride Gladys and attended the University of Maryland. Jack had a very successful career with the Federal government, beginning his career at the U.S. Army Agency in the 1950’s, including a 3-year tour in Europe in the 1960’s, then finishing his career as an Assistant Inspector General for the Department of Defense. Jack was highly active during his career in various professional development activities and was the National President of the Association of Government Accounts in 1986-87.
Jack married Gladys Lorraine Skinner in 1949 and they resided in Oxon Hill for over 46 years. During this time, they had a house built on the family property on Livingston Road, residing next to his sister and her family, Jack’s mother and father, and his grandfather and grandmother. In the 1960’s Jack and Gladys became active in the DC sports car scene and had great success competing in local TSD car rallies at the master class level with the Southeast Sports Car Association (SESCA).
Always sports enthusiasts, Jack and Gladys loved attending sporting events, whether it was a Maryland football game with the mandatory tailgate or a Capitals hockey game at the Cap center where they had season tickets for years. In their later years, Jack and Gladys moved to their paradise home in Port Charlotte for 16 years, then lived in Fremont, California close to their daughter. Following Gladys death in 2014, Jack decided to come home to DC and spent his final years in Fairfax Station, Virginia. Jack is survived by his sister Ginger and her husband Tom, his daughter Gayle and her husband Bob, his son John and his wife Marian, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchild.
Jack will be laid to rest with his wife Gladys on Saturday May 22nd at 2 pm at the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Cemetery, 5203 St. Barnabas Road, Oxon Hill, Maryland 20744, with a reception to follow at the Fawsett Family home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in Jack and Gladys’ memory.
