Thelma Mae Hollis, 95, of Hazelwood, MO, was born on October 23, 1922 in Egypt Mills, MO to Henry Marion Holland and Metta Holland (nee: Delanger). Thelma passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, October 4, 2018 in Troy, MO.
Thelma was the beloved wife of 21 years to the late Dorris “Buck” Hollis until his untimely death in September of 1978. She was the loving mother of the late Terry C. Killian (his wife Patricia survives) and Roger “Dale” Hollis (Martha Hossenlopp); devoted grandmother of Victoria “Tori” Rentfro (Ryan) and Rachael Tran (Don); treasured great grandmother of Lydia, Wilhelm, Vera, and Margaux; dearest sister of Evangeline “Vanny” Suhr (Dean) and the late William, the late Geneva, and the late Jeannette; dear aunt of Darryl, Gary, Lisa, and Mike; and great aunt of Zach, Nick, Eli, Laura, and Lindsey. She is also survived by many other extended family members and friends.
Thelma went to secretarial school to gain her business skills. She worked at various secretarial positions until she joined McDonnell-Douglas. Thelma spent the majority of her career as an Executive Secretary in the corporate headquarters building for McDonnell-Douglas and retired from there in 1986. Thelma was a long-time, active member and an Elder at Florissant Presbyterian Church, where she organized the vacation bible school program for many years. She dearly loved the friends she had within her congregation and enjoyed Sunday services, especially when the choir sang! Thelma was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, going on trips, flower gardening, and watching Western movies, games shows, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Thelma was a lovely lady who cared very much for the important people in her life. Her presence will truly be missed in all of the lives she has touched.
