I wrote the following letter to Sherie in May, 2019.

Dearest Sherie a/k/a Precious Pup

It broke my heart yesterday when you said “I have no purpose.” Of course you do. You are not defined by a job or how much money you make.

Your purpose is to be a wonderful grandmother.
Your purpose is to be a great mother.
Your purpose is to be an awesome aunt.
Your purpose is to be a true friend to many.
Your purpose is to continue to show those around you how to face down a terrible foe with courage, grace, and humor.

Your purpose is to continue to be my reason for getting up in the morning; to make me laugh; make me cry; make me thank the heavens that you came into my life.

So, yes, dearest wife you have a purpose. It is to make the lives of those you touch better for having you in their life – especially me.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for always being there for me; for supporting my craziness; for being you.

Your purpose is to continue being you. The world is a better place because you are in it.

Both Lorrie and I feel very fortunate to have spent many happy hours in the company of Sherie. We will remember her always as a wonderful hostess and a perfect guest. Neither of us can remember a moment when she was not a stylish and graceful presence in our lives. May we all celebrate her incredible inward and outward beauty as long as we are able. Peace be with you dear Sherie and Chris.

Dear Chris,
We were so surprised and saddened to read about Sherie.  Although it's been many years since we worked together, I remember the laughs we used to have in the Marketing Dept.  I also remember the "Scum Pond Party" (?) you and Sherie had, really fun.  You were a great couple.
Please know that even old friends and coworkers who haven't seen you for a long time are thinking about you and are so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Sherie.  Remembering memories of long ago.  Rest in peace, dear friend.

I met Sherie (and Chris) 40 years ago. I had the pleasure of doing her hair every 3 weeks. She was my walking advertisement. Every color every style looked great on Sherie. She Always  came with a smile. Every holiday she (and Chris) brought me a beautiful piece of art . My home is filled with one of a kind pieces from one of a kind person. She will be remembered always and forever. Rest In Peace my beautiful friend. 

Celebrating Sherie – a life of many accomplishments that was filled with so much love, fun, happiness, and success.   Sherie loved life and it loved her back.   As she took on her greatest fear, she demonstrated her greatest courage and strength.  While our relationship was complicated, Sherie enriched our family and made us better by being a part of it.  She is leaving a wonderful legacy with many fond memories and I will miss her deeply.

GOD saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be; HE closed his arms around you and whispered “COME TO ME”; In tears we saw you sinking; We watched you fade away; Our hearts were almost broken; You fought so hard to stay; But when we saw you sleeping so peacefully free from pain; We would not wish you back to suffer that again; So treasure her Lord in your garden of rest; For here on earth she was one of the best  


We have many things to celebrate about Sherie's life and legacy.  Devotion to family and friends was a special quality of hers.  Her beautiful smile and positive spirit.  Her outstanding cooking.  The love between Sherie and Chris inspired us all.  It was always fun to see them together, and they rarely ever missed  family events.  We also had cherished things in common with Sherie and Chris.  Our anniversaries on Thanksgiving Weekend,. Wonderful godparents to our son Doug.  Love of art and their genuine photographic talents.  We love you, Sherie.  You made us all better people, spouses and family.  You left us too early, but these memories will last forever.

Sherie has been a very good friend for 30 plus years.  She took the time to be with me for many important events including  when I got married.  I have so many memories of fun times together.  We vacationed together twice to Key West, the first time was the big millennium year. 
We vacationed up north together many times.  I always looked forward to what Sherie would bake and cook.  She loved her family and talked lovingly about her grandchildren.  She had such a twinkle in her eyes.   She had such courage and grace. I will miss Sherie.

Heartfelt hugs may be a social connection of the past, at least in the near future anyway so those we remember we hold on to.  For Sherie a hug was more than an obligatory greeting, it was a soulful exchange of friendship. Those hugs will be dearly missed.

Sherie never ceased to amaze me. Even through her cancer battle over the past 4 years, she was always full of grace, optimism, humor and love for everyone around her. Her smile would light up a room especially when her Grandchildren were around. Even though we never got to do the things that we discussed once we moved here, the months we did have meant so much to us. 

Over the past 18 years, you treated me not just as a daughter-in-law but as daughter and words cannot express just how much that meant to me. I love and miss you dearly. 

When Sherie and I first met as kids on Watson Avenue, little did we know our friendship would last sixty-six years.  Even when life took us in different directions we always managed to reconnect.  Sherie was a true friend through the ups and downs of life and I will always cherish the many memories of our time together.  I'll miss the phone call that always started with "Hi Jo, it's Sherie"  and ended with "Love You".   May you finally be at peace my dear friend.  

Aunt Sherie was a light. Always smiling, full of joy & internal strength. Love & Miss you.

Aunt Sherie was a wonderful person and a caring Godmother to myself. Always extremely thoughtful and generous throughout my whole life - unconditional in her love. She had such a memorable grace and confidence about her. We will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace.

I have mixed emotions on Sherie's passing, she was such a beautiful, kind, loving person and most of all a wonderful partner to my brother... but she also suffered for many years... it’s strange how God takes the good ones, so way to early..Well at least she is finally at peace.. I grew to love Sherie over the years, just like a sister...and will always remember those hugs and smiles...

Sherie was always so welcoming to others. She always had a dish to pass for tailgates or family meals keeping in mind if there we’re little ones who may enjoy a special treat. Sherie listened intently and inquired about  others despite her personal struggle. She was a beautiful woman with an even more beautiful soul. 

I will always remember Sherie for her Love, Warmth, Beauty, and Smile! Oh that SMILE! She seemed to have a never ending SMILE.   When I meet her nearly 20 years ago she greeted with the warmest hug I will never forget. I will miss those hugs and smiles. But, I have a warm feeling inside of me when I think of her and all my precious memories. She was the sweetest, kindest, soul I think I’ve every had the pleasure of knowing.  I Love You Sherie. 

I am honored to have had Sherie as my friend. We met at Michigan Bell when we were  in our late twenties. We were both single moms and we both needed a friend. I couldn’t have found a better one. I have many many memories of our forty plus years of friendship and they are all dear to me. Thank you  Sherie. I will miss you my friend.

Having known Sherie for thirty plus years was a very enjoyable experience. As noted by others, she was very giving and a lot of fun to be around. Very talented in many things, including the arts of photography, baking and cooking. She will be missed. Norman 

Sherie was my best friend.  In so many ways my touchstone and my  conscience.   I've tried, but I can't pick a favorite memory.   Every memory with Sherie is a favorite.   Sitting on the beach at Higgins Lake.  The Friday night fires of  Higstock Weekends.  The road trip  vacations we took every September with me driving, Sherie as my navigator and our husbands in the back seat driving us crazy.  Or just sitting in each other's homes, eating good food and yelling at the TV.  It was all good.  I am so lucky to have so many good memories of her. I am so lucky to have known her. I miss her.

Sherie meant so much to us. Such a special friend who along with Chris welcomed us into their lives and home often over the years.  We are eternally grateful for that friendship.  We share many wonderful memories that we will always treasure. The awesome parties, delicious dinners, amazing concerts, exciting ball games, not 1 but 2 fantastic Key West trips, our fabulously fun day at the beach in Jupiter FL last year celebrating Sherie's 70th birthday, and especially the 31 years of the Citiots gathering at Higgins Lake for Higstock...Oktoberfest...Winterfest, and much more.
We will miss her kindness, beauty, class, elegance, and grace. May she rest in peace. With our love, prayers, and endless condolences.

Sherie meant so much to me. She was a stalwart cousin and friend, who cherished and nurtured relationships even in the midst of her own difficulties. In recent years, we have shared the deaths of our parents, favorite Christmas cookie recipes, news of our children, husbands, and travels,  pictures of our pets and what we were making for dinner. Ours was the bond of girls growing up in Windsor in the fifties, of shared holidays, of family.  We surprised each other with presents: who but Sherie would send me a box of pierogies, kielbasa, and nalishnikis? Sherie was beautiful, inside and out. I loved her smile, her sparkling rings, her calm voice. She brought light into my life and joy to my heart. Rest in peace, my beautiful cousin.

Sherie was my loving partner, wife and best friend. Her courage, grace and humor during her four year struggle with cancer was - and will continue to be - an inspiration. I also want to thank all of our family and friends who provided us with love and support.
