Irma Lois Quintanilla Cuellar was born February 4, 1947 in Corpus Christi, TX. Her parents were Federico Senovio Quintanilla and Edelmira Longoria Quintanilla. She attended schools in Corpus Christi and San Antonio, Texas. She received a Bachelors of Science from San Antonio College. She married George Cuellar in 1974 and moved to Houston, Texas. She began her teaching career at Jackson Middle School where she taught Physical Education. She received her Masters in Education from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. and became a Drug Prevention Counselor for Houston Independent School District. She finished her career at Jane Long Middle School where she retired in 2004. After retiring she began serving the community of faith at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. While there she worked as the Youth Coordinator, helping young students prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation and helped young ladies prepare to celebrate their rite of passage or Quinceanera. She was also an active member in many organizations including serving as Regent for The Catholic Daughters of America, Our Lady of Guadalupe Ministry, and The Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement and rosary campaign. She was deeply spiritual and it showed when she climbed a small mountain at the Shrine of Our Lady of Medjugorje. She made her Covenant of Love at the Shrine of Our Lady of Schoenstatt in Lamar, Texas. Together with her husband made a pilgrimage to the original Schoenstatt Shrine in Germany and traveled to Italy visiting other important Catholic sites along the way. Some of the activities she enjoyed were decoupaging religious pictures and making rosaries. Irma loved spending time with her family and many many friends. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and made friends easily.
Irma was a strong woman who finally succumbed to an illness that she had been fighting for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, George John Cuellar, her two sons Federico Paul Cuellar, his spouse Cristina Delgado-Cuellar, John David Cuellar and his spouse Priscilla Michelle Cuellar. Her four grandchildren Laurel Cassandra Cuellar, Kayley Michelle Crone, Kara Lynn Cuellar, and Jonathan Duke Cuellar. As well as her three sisters, Sisters Virginia Vira Cantu, Delia Ida Arsuaga, Jane Susan Aragon, and her brothers Mauro Jude Quintanilla and Raul Arnold Quintanilla. She was preceded in death by her brother Fred Senovio Quintanilla. She was loved by many and will be missed. May she rest in peace.
