Henryk was born in Olecko, Poland to the late Jan and Romualda, both accountants and residents of Goldap, Poland. He attended the prestigious Wroclaw University of Science and Technology and received a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1979. He served his country as a reserve second lieutenant in the Polish armed forces. After immigrating to the United States and until Alzheimer’s forced him to retire at the age of 56, he was a union site supervisor for Local 78 in New York City. Henryk was also part of the 9/11 Rescue Team and assisted with site clean-up after the World Trade Center tragedy.
In his free time, Henryk was most interested in hands-on technology, oftentimes being the go-to person for at-home satellite dish installations because of his extensive electrical and assembly knowledge. Henryk was an only child and dedicated his entire life to his wife and two daughters. He loved tropical vacations, enjoying the occasional slice of mushroom pizza, and walking the family dog. Henryk will forever be remembered for his effervescent charm, exceptional intellect, generous heart, clever humor, and bright spirit.
He is survived by Zdzislawa, his loving wife of 43 years, his daughters Alicja (husband Alain) and Eva (wife Alissa), and his grandchildren Patrick, Damian, and Mia.
Friends and family are invited to Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, Connecticut, on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 12-2pm as we gather to celebrate the life of Henryk. A Catholic prayer service will begin at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association with hope that no other family has to lose a loved one to this disease.
