Phyllis Jean Alston Sr.
August 26, 1943 – November 1, 2019
Phyllis J. Alston (Medley), 76 died Friday, November 1, 2019 in Stamford, after a long illness. She was a long-time resident of Stamford, CT. She was born in Stamford, Connecticut in 1943 to Peter Medley and Mary Lewis Medley. She was affectionately known as Momma Phyllis. She married the love her life, Joseph J. Alston on March 14, 1967. She graduated from Stamford High School. She was employed by Clairol, F.A.G. Bearings and various companies. “To trust God in the light is nothing, but trust him in the dark—that is faith.” (Charles Spurgeon) She was a true God-fearing woman with strength. She held on and fought through numerous trials and tribulations. As it was said “She doesn’t look like what she’s been through, she never allowed her pain to claim her.” In her final days, she spoke of being bathed and how she felt like she was being “washed in the blood of the lamb.” She was prepared to meet her savior. She lived for her daughters and grandchildren. Her family was truly her lifeline. She had a heart of gold and a smile that could brighten up the entire room She is predeceased by her late husband, Joseph J. Alston and her daughter, Jorena Alston. She is survived by her loving daughter, Phyllis Alston (Phoenix) and her adoptive son, Jimmy Jackson. She is survived by her sisters, Beverly White (Edward White), Jerri Crenshaw and Sandra Bennett-Alston; also by her brother, James Alston (Vera). She is survived by four grandchildren; Whitney Crummer-Roundtree, Peter Deering, Jessica Montgomery, and James-Joshua Dupree. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Stephon Deering, Paige Brown, Braxton Deering, Hunter Alston-Brown, and Bryce Deering. She is survived by one nephew and two nieces. We extend our appreciation to our dear extended family, the Ragsdales and the Wilsons. In addition, we extend our gratitude for Fairfield County House staff for making her comfortable and loving on her in her final days.
