Kevin C Bernecker

March 22, 1958November 4, 2018

On Sunday morning, November 4 2018 Kevin C. Bernecker peacefully set sail from this life. He departed from Staten Island University Hospital South with his friend and companion, Mary Ellen Colangelo, at his side.

Kevin was a gentle, loving man who thought the world and more of his children, Ciaran and Erin Bernecker, both of Middletown, NJ.

The youngest of 3 sons, Kevin was born in Brooklyn, NY to Charles and Doris (Davidson) Bernecker in 1958. The family moved to Howell, NJ when Kevin was 7 years old and was a member of St. Veronica's Parish. He attended Howell High School and was involved in sports. Football was his primary sport and he was co-captain of the team in his senior year. Over the years he also enjoyed biking, sailing and tennis.

Kevin graduated from Fairleigh Dickenson University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He worked for several firms and organizations over the years as a CPA, including Pinsker, Goldberg & Company, Jersey City Public Schools, the Arc of Monmouth County and several other firms as well as in private practice.

In 2013, Kevin moved to Staten Island after living many years in Middletown and Howell, NJ.

One could consider Kevin a Renaissance man with interests in travel, music (from classical to opera to classic rock), art, reading, gardening, animals, stamps, timepieces and books-and cooking. "Many times I would come home to mouth-watering aromas coming from the kitchen, and Kevin would say 'I invited your Mom over for dinner, Mary"' recounted his friend. He had a special way with older people, showing genuine concern and caring.

In addition to his children and companion, Kevin leaves behind his brother Robert (Keansburg, NJ), niece Margaret Bernecker Olson (Minnesota), nephew William Bernecker (Howell, NJ), cousins Lyla Burton (Virginia) and Vincent Davidson (Virginia), and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, oldest brother William (New Jersey) and uncle Laurence Davidson (Virginia).

Services are being arranged by Casey McCallum Rice Funeral Home in Staten Island, NY.
