Jess Covarruvias, Jr was a graduate of Franklin High School. He was married to his wife Martha for 57 years and had two handsome sons and a beautiful daughter. Jess enjoyed sports and was an avid San Francisco 49er fan and San Francisco Giants fan who himself played Cal-Mex baseball at Stribley Park. Coaching was a skill that Jess mastered while raising his children. Jess spent many years coaching basketball for St. Gertrude’s Catholic Youth Organization while taking several championships undefeated. Being such a huge role model, both Jess’ sons and his daughter followed his example and became coaches for St. Gertrude’s for several years to follow while Jess continued his support from the sidelines. Coaching Little League baseball was also a hobby for Jess, as he was well known by numerous parents, coaches and kids. Jess was retired from Tillie Lewis Cannery and Stockton Plating. Once retired, you could always count on Jess to be present in the bleachers supporting his grandchildren during basketball and baseball season. Jess will always be remembered as a caring, loving and thoughtful husband, dad and papa who was charismatic, funny and had a great sense of humor. There are many legends that have been lost but none that will replace the legend that we lost this year. Papa Jess will always be present in the hearts of many forever and ever. Jess Covarruvias survived by his wife of 57 years Martha Covarruvias, also survived by his three children Jess Covarruvias the III (Gina) Anthony Covurravias (Rochell) Stephanie Punkin Gonzales (Kenny). It was an honor and privilege to play for and know Big Jess. My dad always told me “ when you’re with Jess at practice or during a game, don’t look to me in the stands, he’s your dad when you’re out there with him”. That meant so much to me because I knew that my dad respected him that much. My last year in little league brings back great memories. Anthony at 2nd, Jess at short and me at third. I was the weak link but I loved playing along side you guys and for your dad. Great times. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. Coach Jess was as great a man as he was a coach. He taught us how to compete in sports as well as in life. He shared his time and his family with too many people to count. He will always be appreciated for that. The life lessons learned from him have benefited more generations than he could have ever imagined. I know he is enjoying the games in that field of dreams in heaven! Much love, Smith Family Elk Grove, California
