May 20, 1951 – October 10, 2021
BARRY STEVEN AIKEN With great sorrow and gentle relief, the family of Barry Aiken of Spruce Grove, announces his passing on October 10, 2021 at the age of 70 years. Barry is survived by his partner, his best friend and love of his life Terri Lalonde; his sons Steven Aiken, Kevin Brown, Jeffrey Brown; his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and numerous friends of whom were a part of his family. He was predeceased by his parents Perley and Nellie; and his two older brothers; Rodney (survived by his wife Velma, his daughter Cheryl, and step son Bobby); and Stan (survived by his wife Isabel/Fizz and their daughter Stephany). Barry was born in Sweetsburg, Quebec in May of 1951. He discovered his love of music through his brother Stan, a drummer, and his father Perley, a fiddler. Barry later joined a band where he sang and played guitar; he played the twelve string beautifully! Barry learned a great sense of kindness through his childhood and his experiences growing up, which he carried with him all his life. Barry started out working on farms as a hired hand and worked his way up to become a dairy herdsman. Barry was also a talented welder with an impressive bead. He built evaporators at Small Brothers, one of which was used by his father to make maple syrup as a retirement hobby, something the entire family enjoyed helping with. Barry went on to become an ambulance attendant and firefighter. Following in his brother Rod's footsteps, Barry also did some trucking. Barry’s biggest enjoyment was cooking. He was a wonderful cook and it was always his dream to have a restaurant and help feed people. Barry and Terri decided before retirement they would open up a little restaurant. They operated it for two years; sponsoring numerous community events. They later went on to own and operate a food truck which brought them travel, meeting new people and enjoying new experiences. Barry will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. As per Barry’s wishes, a private Family Service will be held at a later date. Barry’s family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care that Barry received from the doctors, nurses and staff at Capitol Care Norwood, Edmonton, AB.
