Yesterday, I got an unexpected unexpected, yet dreaded phone call from my Mom. My grandpa had suddenly passed away.

Today I had planned to go see Mamma Mia 2. I thought about maybe not going in light of everything that had happened. But then I remembered. Ten years ago, almost exactly, my grandparents took me to see Mamma Mia on stage as my high school graduation gift. We sat in row B and it was an incredible, memorable experience. My grandpa gave me both the original cast recording and the ABBA Gold album (along with a TON of other music--50s, 60s, 70s, 80s) and I had them on repeat for months. He loved his music and passed that love on to my mom and I.

So while it may seem a little cheesy, especially with all the other great memories I have with my grandpa, I think Mamma Mia is going to have an extra special (and slightly emotional) place in my heart. I did go see the sequel today. And cried a little extra as I heard some of the songs my grandpa had introduced me to.

So Grandpa, thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing. Thanks for all the joy they're bringing. Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty. What would life be? Without a song or a dance, what are we? So I say, thank you for the music, for giving it to me.

You will be missed. ❤️

We enjoyed meeting and getting to know Bob through the marriage of our children, Mike and Diane. We stand with the family through this sorrowful time and may you fine peace that he is now at rest.
