Born June 3, 1939 in Maryville, TN he was the son of the late Luther Martin and Johnny Effie (Dailey) Fields.
Prior to retirement, Martin was employed with Virginia Electric and Power where he worked in the Operations Department for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time in Highland County at his camp, farming, pulling horses and attending the Stuarts Draft Diamondback Baseball games. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Evans) Fields; daughter, Kim Plogger; sister, Wanda Patton; sister-in-law, Elaine Fields.
Survivors include his children, Martin D. Fields, Jr., Jennifer Armstrong and her husband, Kern who he thought of as a son and Lee Anna “Goober” Fields all of Stuarts Draft; son-in-law, Sam Plogger of Lexington; grandchildren, Ashley Plogger and her fiancé, Zack Akin, Jessie Fields, Amanda Fields, Tyler Armstrong and his girlfriend, Jessica Powell, Jenna Fields, Luke Fields, Marty Fields who was his faithful caregiver and her girlfriend, Allison “Bobby” Grove; great grandson, Tripp Akin; brother, Ronald Fields of Maryville, TN; brother-in-law, John Patton of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law, Eleanor Evans of Wheeling, WV; special friends, Alex Bosserman; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Augusta Memorial Park with the Pastor Merle Dodson officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
