Marie T. Dacilas
March 26, 1937 – February 12, 2020
Marie Therese Alexander daughter of Lamercie Alexandre and Michel Alexandre was born on March 26, 1937 in Miragoane, Haiti. She was the youngest and last surviving sibling of eight children. Marie married her lifetime friend and partner Eugene Dacilas in 1964. She moved from Haiti to French Guyana and finally to Spring Valley, NY in 1968. They rooted their family in Rockland County for over 50 years and her family, friends, and community saw the blessings of having Marie in their lives. She worked at Robert L, Yeager Medical Center also known as Summit Park Hospital for over 25 years. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Parrish and was a faithful follower for over 40 years. Marie loved to volunteer with the parish and always wanted to find ways to lend a helping hand to others. She was a pillar in the local community. Seeing others around her succeed, advance in life, or overcome obstacles brought her great joy. One of Marie’s greatest joys was raising her two sons Vincent and Pascal. She was avid collector of pictures. She loved having pictures of those close to her especially when they had great achievements or proud moments. In all the years Eugene and Marie lived in Rockland County, it was in that memorable yellow house on Valley View Terrace that often comes to the minds of those close to them. Their door was opened to all that needed a place to stay. Whoever stopped by the yellow house on Valley View terrace knew they were going to offered something to eat and some vegetables straight from Marie’s own garden in her yard. She always had this saying in her unique voice “Bom di yon ti parol tande”, that was Madame Eugene. She enjoyed traveling and her many trips and adventures took her to places like Canada, Italy, France, Rome, Venice, and Haiti and now she is resting peacefully with her beloved husband. Her wisdom and guidance has blessed so many. Marie was loved by her family and friends, she will truly be missed but never forgotten.
