Gayle (née Green) Baur was born in Dallas, Texas to Betty Fitzgerald and Charles F. Green on February 26, 1947. Around the age of ten, her claim to adventure was surviving a tornado in her house near Love Field Airport. She graduated from North Dallas High School where her father also graduated. While there, she enjoyed being a member of the girls' drill team. In 1965 she enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington as a geology major. Here she met her classmate and future husband, Uli Baur. They married in December 1970 in Dallas.
Following Uli’s job, she moved to Texas City and continued her education at College of the Mainland, followed by the University of Houston, where she finished her degree in geology. Upon her graduation, she was hired by Citgo and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma for one year, after which Citgo moved her back to Houston to work as a geophysicist.
She and Uli moved into their new home in Missouri City in 1976 and prepared to start a family. Baby Mike arrived in 1981 and then baby Eric in 1989. During this time, she joined New Hope Lutheran Church, the center of great joy for her. As the boys got older, she became active with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, helping Mike achieve his Eagle Rank.
A few years later, she volunteered to help with the Blood Drive program and soon took full responsibility for it, which gave her great satisfaction.
She also participated in the New Hope Bazaar, organizing the Gift Baskets.
With her husband frequently traveling for his job, she started attending the International Quilt Festival in Houston. This was her yearly vacation gift to herself.
She passed away in her sleep while in home-hospice care with her husband at her side.
Gayle is survived by her husband, Ulric; sons Mike and Eric; Daughter-in-law, TC; and grandson, Christian.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Gayle's memory to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
