Barbara was born in Vidrine, Louisiana and was a longtime resident of Sulphur. She was a devout Catholic who was married to her husband Luther for over 65 years and had four children and six grandchildren together. She had an extraordinary love for all people and was blessed with lifelong friends. Barbara had a deep love for all animals. She was most proud of her Cajun heritage and enjoyed sharing that culture through cooking and feeding her family and friends. Her favorite hobbies included bingo, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, attending garage sales, and trying her luck on the penny slots.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Launey, Sr.; her parents, Maddy and Ethel Mayeux; her step-father, Dudley Rozas; and step-siblings, Johnny Rozas and Jackie Rozas.
Those left behind to cherish her memories are four children, Luther "Louis" Launey, Jr. and wife, Sharon of Lake Charles, Karen Bonnin and husband, Chris of Mount Bellvieu, Texas, Joseph "Joe" Launey and wife, Kathy of Georgetown, Texas, and Lydia Launey of Beaumont, Texas; six grandchildren, Brent Bonnin, Kayla Bonnin, Sean Launey, Kate Storro, Joey Launey, and Alissa Launey Plascencia; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Ryder Bonnin, Kai and Emma Plascencia and Sam and Cece Storro; and nephew, Bill Launey; along with other nieces and nephews. Barbara is also survived by step-siblings, Dan Rozas and Bonny Hicks.
Family will receive friends beginning at 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will resume from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church with Rev. Terry Niziolek officiating. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
