Assisted Living Facility. She is predeceased by her three husbands, The Reverend William H. Payne,
Milton M. (Mike) Finger, and James P. Gilbert, Sr. Born on February 20, 1928 in Warren, Rhode Island,
to John P. Enos and Meta B. (Horton) Enos, she moved to New Jersey at the age of 9, the state she
would always consider to be home, and then to Florida in 1971.
Joyce had a varied career path, working for John Hancock Insurance in New York, Bristol-Myers, a
doctor, an economist, Executive National Bank, and Miami-Dade College, from where she retired in
1994. However, her lifelong passion was her music. As a young woman, her beautiful soprano voice
was highly regarded, and she was often hired to share it. She was always a member of her church choir,
and handbell choir.
She is predeceased by her sister, Vivian Armour, and is survived by her daughters, Susan F. Anderson of
Ocala, and Victoria C. (Cory) Payne and her husband, Richard D. Drueke of DeWitt, Michigan, and
stepsons, John Gilbert, James Gilbert, Jr, and his wife Mirta. She has 4 granddaughters, Bethany
Anderson (Andrew Runyon), Rebecca Anderson Ronie, Elizabeth Drueke, Abigail Drueke, three great
granddaughters, seven step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.
Joyce was always smiling, quick-witted, and steadfast in her faith. She joked that when in Heaven, she
would be sitting in her recliner chair, dressed to the nines (wearing all her jewelry), with a giant bowl of
popcorn on one side, a pile of black licorice on the other side, a glass of sherry on both sides, and she’d
be watching a marching band parade going by.
She will be interred at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Palmetto Bay, Florida. A memorial service will
be scheduled for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Andrew’s Episcopal
Church, 14260 Old Cutler Road, Palmetto Bay, FL 33158. Please designate it for the music fund.
