I'm gonna miss you sooo much Gramps (aka Groucho) and as much as I'm heartbroken you're gone I'm glad you and Grandma are together again and I have one more person watching over me! I hated that I couldn't be closer and see you more but I know the love you had for all of your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren was all the same and we all had a special place in your heart just like you had in ours! You were an example of what a man should be!! We will all miss you and can't wait until we meet again! Comanchero Grandpa!!

Our sympathy to the Mattos family. Joe and Dora were our neighbors in Overgaard for many years. You could not ask for better neighbors. Dora & I took walks and chatted and Joe was always available for a kind word or to offer help or advice. Our son-in-law and our son had many good times with Joe. When our grandkids and theirs were younger, we had fun with all of them. We will miss them, but are glad they are together again.

Words do an injustice in explaining how much we will miss Joe. He will remain alive in our memories and admiration. We will think of him each time we spot the wonderful gift he gave us in the backyard as well. Our condolences to the family.

Papa Joe, you were a man that I looked up to for so many reasons. You and Grams had an incredible marriage, filled with love and support for one another, your children, and your grandchildren. You taught me to work hard for what I want and to make responsible choices that will provide for a brighter future. You did not teach me these things through only words, but more so through your actions. You sacrificed for your family and this country and never complained or asked for anything in return.

I remember during childhood, spending so many weekends and weeks over the summer with you and Grams. Those times were so beautiful and made me feel so loved and cherished. I can remember trying to run past you before you could grab me and twist my arm playfully. I can remember your funny jokes that would make me laugh so hard. I can remember so many times that you were there to comfort me and support me. Those times were the greatest moments of my childhood.

When I told you and Grams about my dream to become a licensed professional counselor, I got the impression you did not have the highest belief in that profession. However, you supported me through the entire journey. You cheered me on through earning my bachelor and master degree and even surprised me with the gift of paying for my licensing exam. You believed in me! I was so proud when I told you I passed that exam! You probably had no idea how much your support motivated me.

I know you are with me, encouraging me every day and I will not take your support and help for granted. I will continue to live in a way you would have been proud. I was so blessed to have had the most amazing grandparents and to learn from your example. I will work hard to plant the same seeds with my children and future grandchildren to keep growing on what you and Grams built. Thank you, Papa Joe, for being such an incredible influence in my life and the lives of my children. Thank you for opening your home and your heart to me always. I will miss your presence, but you earned that space in Paradise, and I know you and Grams are living it up while watching over us.

We are so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. We enjoyed him as an email friend as well as a great neighbor in Overgaard. He and Dora were a delightful couple and they always put a smile on our faces. They will always be a very fond memory.
