Roy George Ferrell, or simply “Bud” to all who knew him began his life on January 14th, 1953, in Welling, OK, the son of Sam and Louella (Sanders) Ferrell. Throughout his life, Bud found most pleasures and comforts from the simple things. In his youth he enjoyed playing softball in the co-ed league. His lifelong passions included calf roping, hunting, and fishing. He was comfortable with silence in a way very few people are, and in such he was a man of few words. They say still waters run deep, and this seems a very fitting statement regarding Bud. Not a simple man, but a man who chose to live simply and find his happiness in family and experiences.
Bud never shied from hard work. Growing up a farm boy, he learned early on the value of a job well done and the consequences that could come of laziness. He chose to continue the farm life as an adult, helping his parents with their land and livestock until they passed from this world, all the while also tending to his own land and livestock, as well as working full time at Greenleaf Nursery - a job he maintained for over 45 years, retiring only last year. In his work, Bud was truly a man of consistency. Bud’s greatest loves and life’s passion were for his family. Anytime there was a need, Bud was willing to do anything he could to help. His daughter, Jaime, was the light of his life – outshined only by the coming of his granddaughter, Sydney, in whom he “finally got his firecracker baby.” The smile on Bud’s face as he walked into the hospital to meet Sydney and welcome her to this world could have melted the coldest of hearts! Bud always seized every opportunity to show his support for his grandkids at events in which they played sports, cheerleading, birthdays…He always eagerly looked forward to the family gathering for holidays, birthdays, or just because. His favorite was 4th of July, when his family would share great food and a spectacular fireworks display.
Bud passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 21st, 2020 in Tahlequah, OK. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, LaFayette and Tennie (Minnear) Ferrell, George Washington and Annie Mae (Willis) Sanders, his parents, one brother, Gene Ferrell, one sister, Susie Ferrell, and one sister-in-law, Lowee Ferrell. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Jaime Williams and husband Jason of Pea Ridge, AR, one brother, Jim Ferrell and significant other, Sherry Kimble of Tahlequah, OK, three sisters, Leona Ferrell of Welling, OK, Alene Eddings and husband Tommy of Lost City, OK, Linda Faye Pritchett and husband Louie Wayne of Welling, OK, and his longtime companion Louella Studie of Welling , OK. His legacy lives on in his three cherished grandchildren, Sydney Brown, Hunter Williams, and Gavin Williams, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones, far too numerous to mention.
