November 8, 1960 – January 8, 2021
Cheryl (Holcomb) Sequichie was born on November 8th, 1960, the daughter of Charley Holcomb and Eliza (Pritchett) Holcomb-Sanders. After graduating from Tahlequah High School, Cheryl continued her education over the years, taking college classes at Northeastern State University. She used her education to help the community she lived in and the people she was so proud of, working at Job Corp and Indian Child Welfare with the Keetoowah and Cherokee Tribes. She was an employee for Cherokee Nation Industries for many years, before becoming a Facilities Management Clerk with WW Hastings Hospital for the last six years. When Cheryl wasn’t working, her life revolved around the family she loved. She was the proud wife of 35 years to Gary Sequichie. They were married on August 29th, 1986 at Sequoyah Baptist Church in Lyons Switch, OK, near Bunch, OK. To this union four wonderful children were born, Justin, Sonny, Neil and Cheyenne. She cherished the tradition of gathering for the holidays with her family and the memory of her mother and grandmother passing along their skills in the kitchen. Cheryl and her mother shared a very special bond and friendship. She could be found fixing up her favorite fry bread and meatloaf or a good ol’ BBQ in the backyard with burgers and fixin’s. Cheryl looked forward to springtime every year, where she could get out in her garden, she had a green thumb, and watch her eldest play fast pitch softball. Mom was his biggest fan. She loved to go shopping and stop off at the local yard sales, even if it was just to browse and see what neat things she could find. Her down time was spent taking in the classics on TV, like Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Andy Griffith. A Christian by faith, Cheryl was very close with the Lord and spent much time in prayer. She was a faithful member of the Blessed Hope Baptist Church, always willing to lend a hand and help with whatever was needed. To her family, Cheryl was the sweetest, most wonderful, strongest, wisest woman they knew. The pillar on which the foundation of their home was built. On Friday, January 8th, 2021, she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 60 years old. She will forever be remembered as a beacon of light to all that knew and loved her.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her father and one son, Justin Bailey.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gary Sequichie of the home, her mother, Eliza Sanders of Tahlequah, OK, two sons, Gary “Sonny” Sequichie Jr. of Tahlequah, OK and Neil Sequichie of Tahlequah, OK, one daughter, Cheyenne Ballard of Tahlequah, OK, four brothers, Pastor Bill Holcomb of Tahlequah, OK, Rodney Holcomb of Tahlequah, OK, Ricky Holcomb of St. Ignatius, MT and Charley Holcomb Jr. and wife Jeannie of Welling, OK and two sisters, Barbara Dunn and husband George of Morris, OK and Sherry Kromhout and husband Eric of Claremore, OK. Her memory lives on through her six grandchildren, Jennie Anaweg Whitekiller, Maggie Mae Sequichie, Sonny Edward Sequichie, Jeremiah Sequichie, Blain Ray Bailey and Rayne Bailey along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

I met Cheryl at Hastings Hospital, and talk about a small world! We were connected in so many ways. A beautiful lady. God rests her soul in peace and love. For now she can delight in the glory of God with her loving son, Justin.
