Phillip "Blue" Bluebird

April 18, 1947November 14, 2020

Phillip Bluebird, or Blue to his family and friends, was born on April 18th, 1947, in Rocky Ford, OK, the son of Elias Jim and Nancy (Belt) Bluebird. He was raised in a household with four brothers and six sisters, Rufus, Floyd, Charles Dennis, Jack, Maudie Watson, Rhoda Davis, Shirley Case, Mary Maddux, Bessie Davis and Geneva Bluebird. He attended high school and upon graduating, started dating who was to be his lifelong companion and his best friend, Peggy Sue Grasshopper. They were wed on November 13th, 1968 in Tahlequah, OK. This union was blessed with 52 years of life long happiness and four children, Anthony Eugene, Sheila, Phillip Jr., and Cynthia. Blue worked for Cherokee Nation at the housing authority for many years. He enjoyed the people he met on a daily basis and liked helping people. When he was done working for the day, he always had a passion for playing fast pitch softball and had played as long as his early childhood. His reputation was known far and wide for his wicked fast pitching. He liked to tinker in his shop, and you could normally find him working on a car, or fixing the lawnmower. He was happy to be out in the sunshine working in the yard, and then he made his rounds, visiting the neighbors up and down the road, visiting and catching up on the latest. He liked hunting for polk salad, watching wrestling and westerns on TV, and cheering on the OU Sooner football team. He loved to gather his family together and share a meal and a story or two. He attended Johnson Prairie Baptist Church and never met a stranger. He loved to talk to everyone. He was active clear up until the end of his life, and passed from this life on November 14th, 2020 at his home surrounded by those who knew and loved him most. Blue was 73 years old.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lucus Bluford and Elizabeth Jane (Roach) Bluebird – Galcatcher, Thomas Tom and Mary (Squirrel) Belt, his Mother and Father, and all of his brothers and sisters except for Jack Bluebird.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Peggy Sue of the home in Shady Grove, and his children, Anthony Eugene Bluebird and wife Rhonda of Big Cypress, FL, Sheila Bluebird of Tahlequah, Phillip Bluebird Jr of Hulbert, OK, and Cynthia Ketcher and husband Amos of Stillwater, OK. His brother Jack Bluebird of Oaks, OK survives him and he lives on in his seven grandchildren, Ashlea Kingfisher and husband Kaleb of Tahlequah, Matthew Bluebird of Shady Grove, Nevaeh Ketcher of Stillwater, OK, Choogie Ketcher of Stillwater, Tanessa Ketcher of Stillwater, Elias Bluebird of Park Hill, OK, and Toddy Ketcher of Stillwater, OK.
