Carol J. Alfes

Carol J. Alfes, 86, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away last Wednesday, July 3, 2019. Carol was born and raised in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and resided there until 1954, when she and her family moved to Ft. Lauderdale. The family relocated to Tallahassee in 1973, where Carol lived for the remainder of her life.

Carol was an assistant in the media center at Timberlane/Gilchrist Elementary School and DeSoto Trail Elementary School, and retired from the Leon County School system in 1994.

Carol was the queen of her kitchen, an avid reader and puzzle solver, a formidable opponent in any type of card game, a gardener, seamstress, and a devoted wife and mother. She loved dining out with her family and hosting family dinners.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, A. Walter Roemer and Elvera M. Roemer; her husband, Joseph A. Alfes; her son, Thomas W. Alfes; and her sister, Margaret Nutten. She is survived by her children, Daryl J. Alfes (Ann), Sharon A. Rocker (Timothy) and Frances M. Snavely (Scott); and her grandchildren, Shelby A. Searcy, Sarah M. Alfes and Hannah J. Alfes, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (4664 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL), at 12:00 p.m., with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in her name to a charity of your choice.

Throughout many years as Carols hairdresser I got to know how fun, loving, and generous she could be. She took on difficult challenges and conquered them with such an undaunted spirit that I will always take that as a life lesson from her. She will be greatly missed by many and my condolences go out to her friends and family.
