He was born in 1954 in New York to Anthony and Elizabeth Roumelis, both World War II veterans. They soon moved to Miami, Florida to start a new life in the booming Sunshine State.
Chuck grew up attending local Catholic schools, graduating from Saints Peter and Paul School and from Immaculata-La Salle High School in 1972. He attended Miami-Dade College and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Science-Meteorology Analysis in 1974. He went on to attend Florida International University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies in 1975 and a Master’s Degree in Management in 1976. He then attended Florida State University to study Meteorology and stayed in Tallahassee, Florida for the rest of his life.
Chuck married Deborah Baier in 1978, after meeting at FSU as graduate students. Their son Justin was born in 1989, and their daughter Michelle followed in 1994.
Chuck valiantly served his country in the Army Reserves from 1986 through 1991, with honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant. He served in Military Police and Military Intelligence roles and deployed during Operation Desert Storm with the 800th Military Police Brigade.
During this time, he also worked in various support roles within the Florida Department of Revenue and General Tax Administration, and he also obtained his real estate license. He was active in his children’s lives, volunteering and attending events with sports, Boy Scouts and school activities.
In 2013, he attended his son Justin’s wedding to his wife Kristina, a big occasion he was thrilled to be a part of. Later, after surviving a battle with cancer in 2019, he retired from the Florida Department of Revenue with 31 years of service. That same year, he proudly attended Michelle’s wedding to her husband Matthew, in Michigan. He got to experience the love and joy of welcoming three grandchildren to the world, and spending time with them and his children was his life’s greatest joy.
Left to honor him and remember his love are his son Justin (Kristina Roumelis) and daughter Michelle (Matthew Baier), grandchildren Daniel, William and Ava, sister Donna Blyth (Peter Blyth), nieces Jennifer Cole and Andrea McSorley, and many other friends and family members.
Many coworkers and old friends recall Chuck as an optimistic, outgoing, generous person who enjoyed making conversation with anyone. Chuck had a great sense of humor and positive attitude and believed in loving your neighbor as Jesus commanded. He will be greatly missed, but we can take comfort knowing he is residing with Jesus now for eternity, where there is no suffering or sadness, nor pain or loneliness.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CulleysMeadowWoodFuneral.com for the Roumelis family.
