Elvy K Pippen, 98, of Tallahassee died at her home Wednesday (5/16) evening. She was born in Savannah, GA and had moved Gainesville, FL to attend art school. While in Gainesville she met Ottis Pippen who would become her husband. When Ottis was to be deployed in 1943, Elvy boarded a train and traveled from Florida to California where they were married. He died in 2000, after 57 years of marriage. Ottis and Elvy moved to Tallahassee in 1947 and they built their home in 1950 where they lived for the remainder of their lives.
She was a very happy person who loved her family her friends and all children. She was always faithful to her church and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. A very creative and detailed person she enjoyed sewing and making thing pretty. Music and dancing were things she also loved. She was a good cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She was also accomplished in her work life and worked in communications for many years. She spent her career with the State of Florida and was there to help with the conversion of the State system to digital.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Ottis L Pippen; parents: Amis William Kelly and Jenny Myer Kelly; sister: Dorothy Kelly McVay; brother: Amis William Kelly, Jr. Survivors include 2 daughters: Mary P cooper, Virginia P Satterfield; son: Howard and his wife Kathryn; grandsons: John Paul Cooper, Matthew Cooper; great-grandchildren: Tia Cooper, Tanner Cooper, Tori Cooper; nieces: Jacqueline McVay, Jennifer McVay; and close friends: Julie Holt and Cheryl Patterson.
