LaPolk “Jim” Jordan, 84, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 in Tallahassee, Florida. Born October 17, 1929 in Hertford, North Carolina and He was a graduate of Perquimans County High School. He later completed two years of college courses through the United States Armed Forces Institute, as well as an extensive military training education. He joined the army in Oct.1946 and later became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was stationed in Germany during the wind down of WWII and continued serving until 1953. He then became a police officer in Tallahassee, for a short time, until deciding to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. He served in many stateside air bases, primarily as an administrative & information supervisor and superintendent. He was also served as Senior Master Sergeant at Incirlik Air base in Adana, Turkey from 1959 to 1961. This was during the Cold War where the U.S. U-2 aircraft, which was shot down over Russia, was based from. He was also an instrumental part of leading with the Civil Air Patrol for the Southeast U.S. After retiring from the Air Force, with 22 yrs service, he then started a second career in the U.S. Post Office located in Orlando, Florida. He also retired from the USPS after 30 yrs. of distinguished service. After retiring, he later moved to Tallahassee and was a full-time caregiver for seven yrs. to his wife, Mary, who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. LaPolk “Jim” is predeceased by his wife of 55 yrs., Mary Elizabeth Jordan, of Tallahassee. He is survived by his son Christopher LaPolk Jordan of Tallahassee and his brother Thomas L. Jordan of Huntsville, Texas. He is also survived by his long time fiancé Elsie Boothe of Tallahassee, whose companionship he cherished for the past five years. Arrangements under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
