Walter Franklin McCollister, of Tallahassee, Florida, peacefully passed away on April 15, 2018. He is survived by his son, Donald McCollister (Hollie); daughter, Susie Mathis (fiancé Tim); sister, Kadhra Thrower (Mike); granddaughter, Brittany Hawkins (Todd).
He is proceeded in death by his parents Thomas and Sadie McCollister; brother, Tom McCollister; and wife of 57 years DiAnne McCollister.
Walter was born May 17, 1939 in Montgomery, Alabama. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his professional career he worked for the phone company and retired after many years of service.
Walter had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was an active church member at Seminole Baptist Church and later on at Crossway Baptist Church, serving at both as Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
In his spare time, Walter enjoy peddling in wood working, golf, and fishing (mostly at Lake Talquin with his bream buster). He also, enjoyed trips to the Great Smokey Mountains and on any given day, he could be caught in his recliner, watching westerns.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Crossway Baptist Church; 405 Crossway Road.
The family would like to thank everyone who has prayed for Walter, showed support and their love. We love you all.
All are welcome to attend the memorial and celebrate Walter’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donation be made to Big Bend Hospice or Crossway Baptist Church.
