illness. A Tampa native born 1/7/1941, she was a Plant High graduate, attended FSU
and remained an avid ‘Noles supporter. Barbara earned her BA in Education from
FSU and her MA from NOVA Southeastern. She was a middle and high school teacher
(English and History) for 40 years in Georgia and Florida. In 1963, she married R. Dale
Brown and moved to Miami where she lived until 2009 when she returned to Tampa.
Her greatest teaching joys came from being part of the faculty that opened Miami Southridge Senior HS
with Dr. Teckerman. The staff who started there together formed a special, lifelong bond, and she
treasured the experiences they shared. In late 1980s she left Southridge for administration at the
Teacher Education Center (TEC), where she remained until her retirement in 2009. Outside of teaching,
Barbara had many interests. She was active with First Baptist Church of South Miami for 20-yrs and
loved singing in the choir. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner, enjoyed volunteering, traveling,
and loved the beach. Predeceased by mother Evelyn and father Rudy Lima, Barbara is survived by
daughters Judy Tilton and Susan Mannon (Rodney), grandchildren Nathan, Sadie (Stephen), and Katie,
numerous cousins and many beloved friends. Please join the family for a Celebration of her Life on
Monday, August 9, when we will share our favorite Barbara stories beginning at 2:00 pm followed by a
service at 3:00 pm. Blount Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Rd, Tampa, FL.
