Ronald Thomas Martino, Sr. of Tampa, passed away on September 2, 2023 at the age of 78. He was born in Los Angeles, California on November 12, 1944. Ronald "Ron", spent his younger years growing up in West Tampa, later moving with his family to Perry Avenue. He attended OLPH Catholic School and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1962. Shortly after his marriage to Kathleen Buscemi in 1968, he was deployed to Vietnam to serve in the Marines, where he spent time on the USS Garrett County (LST-786) as a corpsman. After his tour of duty the returned home to his wife and son, Ronnie Jr. Anxious to resume his civilian life, Ron graduated from the University of Tampa and began a career in Real Estate that spanned over 40 years. The family eventually moved to the Carrollwood area in North Tampa, where he lived up until his death.
Ron was passionate about many things in life. He enjoyed telling stories about his hunting experiences more than the actual quest for the prized 10-point buck! He was an avid reader of books about space exploration and alien sightings. He looked forward to our traditional spaghetti meals on Sunday. He loved his pasta! He thoroughly enjoyed a good cigar. Forgiveness is an attribute that came easily to Ron. He emanated the values that were depicted in his favorite series…Band of Brothers. He was loved by many.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, Sam C. Martino and Rose Amorelli Martino, and his daughter, Katalin Martino Lazzara. He is survived by his wife Kathleen of 55 years, son Ronald T. Martino, Jr. and wife Laura, daughter Gina B. Martino, and son Samuel R. Martino. Also included are his two grandchildren, Blake and Lauren Martino.
The family wishes to thank all of Ron’s doctors and nurses from the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. We also want to thank our friends for their condolences, food, and flowers in our time of need.
Ron will have a service at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, where he will be at peace with his band of brothers.
