I am a deputy sheriff for Hillsborough county. I met Van a few months ago while writing reports near the water reservoir. He came pulling up in his truck and struck up a conversation. We quickly hit it off and our mutual love of the outdoors started a friendship. I made it a point to always see Van every Sunday when I was on patrol at 3pm while he was at work at the reservoir. We would drive around the property together and admire all the wildlife. If we were busy and I was late I would always get a phone call from him checking on me to make sure I was ok. I have worked as a deputy now for 5 years and throughout my time on patrol I have met many people but Van is someone I am a better person to have met and won’t soon forget he was an amazing guy and will be truly missed.

I had known Van for many years, in fact he was the one who gave me my email address he always called me mommas and I looked at it as a name of honor. Vans brightest moment was the birth of his daughter Ally whom he adored. When I was in the hositpal he was there with his silly laugh to brighten my day. I will always remember him with love

I don’t even know where to start. I met you through our mutual friend John Baker when we were just 16 and it was down hill from there. You were goofy, lived life to its fullest, and THOUGHT you were funny with your lame jokes. Your laugh was infectious and LOUD.

I remember your overprotective mom and sister coming to my door playing spy trying to find you because they didn’t know where to look. They would pull up in the blue station wagon adamant that I was lying and hiding you. Your parents and sister soon became family to me just as you became part of the family to mine.
We went on so many adventures, prom, cruises, Orlando, etc. Every time you were the life of the party. I will cherish those memorie.
As life happens, we went our own paths but still kept in touch constantly. You were protective of me and I was of you.
You had a way of knowing and finding out things. You tried your best to keep me safe from my ex. I will never forget Mothers Day 2004 when you found out how bad things were. I was pregnant with Lucas. I thought I was good at hiding how bad things were between my ex but you saw through it. You quickly told my parents and threatened my ex if he did anything else that he was going to have you to deal with. You always looked out for me and my family. You were protective and would do anything to protect us because we were family.
We went to each other’s weddings, you and Kim were one of the first ones to find out I was pregnant with Gavin when I visited you at the hospital for Ally’s birth.
We have went months without talking but always picked up where we left off when we spoke again. My parents thought of you as a son.
You cared for my parents as if they were your own. You visited my mom in the hospital when we thought we were going to lose her. You joked about those “lucky shoes” that you loved so much of hers.
I hope you are enjoying your time up with your mom, dad, and sister. You will be missed down here. Thank you for everything.

I worked with Van at Hillsborough County School Security. He always shared his knowledge of the medical field. I always called him DR. Tisdale, and if I didn’t feel well would go to him for a diagnosis. You truly will be missed, Rest In Peace my friend.

Van, Uncle Van, and our brother!

The first time we met well there is no reflecting that haha. Our cat attacked you, and you met your niece for the first time. Soon after you came back to visit during a pandemic to celebrate Taylor and I getting married with Nicole. You were on the ball of ensuring nothing but safety at the wedding and reception! I’ll always remember this time because I witnessed you ask Taylor and Don for Nicole’s hand in marriage. Soon after we zoom called and you proposed.. (although you were never good at keeping secrets!) you and Taylor were more alike than we all thought lol!

Recently December 25-January 2nd we spent a whole week with you and Nicole met our niece ally and made unforgettable memories. I learned that your supposed to Cook fries for “9 hours” not “9 minutes”. We constantly ate chicken wraps for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Best of all are the unforgettable moments of making you into a cards against humanity addict. The many unforgettable laughs.

Your wings were ready but our hearts were not! A piece of our family is now in heaven and we miss you dearly!

I met you first as mr.Tisdale, you came into my life at just 16 years old and oh my did God have a plan for you when he brought you into my life... at 18 you were no longer Mr.Tisdale, you had become chief Tisdale to me and began teaching me how to become a fire fighter.. I came to some crossroad in life where I left fire and decided EMS was my route and you were still there always for me and gave me guidance in so many ways.. You became my best friend, hardest critic , and my mentor.. I will forever look up to the man you were and it will forever be inside me thriving me to push for better. I'm scared to know where my life would have been if I didnt have you in it. You will forever be missed by so many.. I am so honored to have been able to have a piece of your life to remember for the rest of mine.

Mr.Tisdale was how I knew him, he was my teacher in high school, the knowledge that he had on anything medical was amazing, he didn't even need to read to refresh himself when giving an answer to any question that was asked. He always had a funny story or joke that he would share and would always put a smile on anyone's face. I'm so sorry for his family's loss, may he rest in peace and be greeted at the gates of heaven.
