Vincent P. Costanza
September 18, 1919 – January 23, 2021
Vincent P Costanza, age 101, of Tampa, entered into rest on January 23, 2021. He was born September 18, 1919 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Nick and Mary (Leonard) Costanza.
Vincent attended high school at Ensley High in Birmingham. After graduation, he worked at the family grocery store. On June 25, 1941 Vincent married Josephine Guastella who was from Tampa Florida. Soon after marriage, because of the outbreak of World War 2, Vincent joined the Army and was assigned to the Air Corp division where he became a pilot trainer. He would remain in the US training pilots until his discharge after the end of the war.
In 1950, Vincent and his family moved to the Tampa area, living on Belleair Beach for three years, and later moving to Ybor City and finally to north Tampa. During this time period he was the manager of the Carnival Grocery store on Hillsborough Avenue at the river and then decided to make a career change and started working for Kraft Foods Company, where he would remain until retiring in 1983.
Vincent spent most of his retired years travelling with Josie on cruises, to the mountains to see the leaves change, gambling in Vegas and Biloxi, and touring Arizona, the West Coast, and Hawaii. Since Vince and Josie were rabid football fans, they also travelled to some Florida Gator and Buccaneer road games.
In the late 1990's, looking for a new adventure, Vince started working the spring games for the New York Yankees. He worked for the Yankees until last March, when the games were cancelled because of Covid . Josie passed in 2013 and Vincent has been living alone since.
Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Mary Costanza, his wife of 72 years Josie Costanza, and son, Vincent Costanza. Survivors include his son Michael Costanza and wife Eileen, grandsons Michael Costanza Jr. and wife Suzanne, and Vincent Costanza and wife Amanda; great-grandchildren Natalie Costanza, Stella Costanza, Vincent Costanza Jr., and Ava Costanza
