Services for Reba Pate, 80, of Crowley, formerly of Temple, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Mrs. Pate died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 in Crowley. Mrs. Pate was born on October 6, 1929 in Brownwood, Texas to the late Rev. Stephen Wilford Miller and Edith Bernice Carr Miller. She attended schools in Brownwood, Paint Rock, San Angelo, Menard and graduated as Valedictorian of Charles Bender High School in Humble in 1947. She received her BS from East Texas Baptist College in 1951 and taught math at ETBC for a couple of years. Mrs. Pate moved to Temple in 1951 and taught 7th grade math at Reagan Junior High until 1954. She married Doyle O. Pate on July 24, 1954 in Early, Texas. She and Doyle went to graduate school in summers from 1955 to 1957 and Reba received her Masters degree from Sam Houston in 1957. From 1954 to 1963, Reba taught 7th grade math and 8th and 9th grade advanced Math at Travis Middle School. From 1971 to 1973, she taught 7th to 9th grade math at St. Mary's in Temple. In the summer of 1974, she received post-masters with a library certification from Baylor University. From 1974 until she retired in 1987, she was the librarian at Lamar Middle School. Mrs. Pate was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 55 years. Mrs. Pate was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle O. Pate, in 2000. Survivors include daughters, Bernadette Pate Palomino of Temple and Renee Michelle Wilson of Crowley, TX; a sister, Marilynn Jane Sharp of Granbury, TX and a grandson, Pate Braxton Palomino.
