John "Bill" Thompson passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 18, 2020. He was born in Terre Haute in 1956 and graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School in 1975.
He worked in healthcare for many years as a registered respiratory therapist and registered polysomnographic technologist. His passion in life was helping people. He was a kind and caring gentleman who loved his family more than anything, especially his "best buddy" Jeremy. Bill also was an accomplished woodworker, having crafted many pieces of furniture as well as hundreds of "menu caddies" for Texas Roadhouse Restaurants all over the country and as far away as Saudi Arabia.
Bill was a faithful member, deacon, and trustee of Rio Grande Baptist Church until in 2012, at the young age of 56, he was diagnosed with the devastating disease of early onset Alzheimer's and could no longer attend services. He lived the remainder of his life in the comfort of his own home with his wife, Kathy; son, Jeremy; and friend, Taylor, always by his side.
We wish to especially thank our faithful, loving friends, Gary and Linda Gruver, who so graciously provided nourishment and support, both spiritually and emotionally, month after month through many difficult years and all the dear friends who also faithfully provided many meals and visits to our family during Bill's painful illness.
Love and thanks to all the lovely ladies at the UH Service League gift shop for unwavering support and concern. Gratitude and appreciation to Heart to Heart Hospice and to many other friends and family who provided comforting support and to the very special friends who remained close to our side through it all.
A brief graveside service will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 1:00pm at Roselawn Memorial Park. Fellowship at the family home will follow between the hours of 2:00pm and 3:00pm.
