Kenneth Eugene Banta

Kenneth Eugene Banta, 87, passed away April 3, 2018, in his residence. He was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Terre Haute, to Cornie Banta and Hazel Haynes Banta.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret Cleghorn Banta; and sister, Shirley Lyday.

Kenneth is survived by his sister, Delores "Dodie" Childress, Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired from Gordon's Trucking in Chicago as a dock foreman after 28 years of service. He later worked for the Northeast Sullivan School Corp. in custodial maintenance.

Kenneth was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. His memberships included the D.A.V., V.F.W. Post 972, American Legion Post 346 and the T.H. Moose Lodge #1009. He enjoyed square dancing, camping and boating, and loved to travel.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Thomas Funeral Home. Services to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Norman Santus officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors by V.F.W. Post 972. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at: www.thomasfuneralhome.net

Mr. Banta was my neighbor for the last few years such a pleasure to speak with him on casual meetings. My pops and Mr. Banta were friends and shared war stories together. Rest in Peace Neighbor. Thank You for Serving Our Country!
