Wilma “Joy” Newbold, 61, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Regional Hospital. Joy fulfilled her final wish upon passing and was an organ and tissue donor. She was born on May 17, 1957, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Bobby Lee and Phyllis Anne (Fletcher) Scott. She married John Newbold on September 16, 1974 in Clovis, New Mexico.
Joy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 45 years, John Newbold of Terre Haute; daughter, Phyllis Anne Newbold and companion Benton Lee Rogers of Terre Haute; son, Joshua Patrick Newbold and wife Sunyoung of Long Island, NY; granddaughter, Tatianna Bryant of Terre Haute; sister, Linda Wilhite and husband Jim of Clovis, NM; special cousin, Tammy Miller and husband Louie of Terre Haute; aunt, Helen Eyre and husband Bill of Sullivan; brother-in-law, Bill Newbold and wife Denise of New Paris, OH; close friend, Michele Priest of Clovis, NM; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and last, but not least, her beloved cat, Max and dog, Puppy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Garnet and William Newbold; second cousin, Nicholas “Nick” Miller; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Joy worked as a manager in the retail industry for many years before settling down to enjoy retirement. As a teenager, she was a talented roller-skater and could do many tricks with the four small wheels beneath each foot. Later on, Joy traded her roller skates for bowling shoes and a bowling ball. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader. She liked playing games on the computer, especially solitaire and mahjong. The clicking of the computer mouse was a familiar noise in the house when Joy was in game mode. She loved animals, but above all else, she loved her family most of all. She cherished the time she spent with them and always made sure to let them know how much they were loved. She will be truly missed.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Joy’s Life will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Lilly officiating. Joy will be laid to rest at a later date in Colorado Springs with her parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
