Resident of Castro Valley Born in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to the parents of Mary Catherine Winkler and Arlis Lee Stancoff, with 1 older sister Theda, and 1 younger brother Arlis Lee Jr. LaVaughn moved to San Diego when she was 5, and lived there until she was 14 then moved to Texarkana, AK. She married her devoted husband, Jack, of nearly 70 years, they had two children, her son Jack Jr., and daughter Lynda. She had five grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren. They moved to Castro Valley in 1965. LaVaughn was known for her philanthropic work as she established and ran a “Nearly New Thrift Shop” in San Leandro with all profits/proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital in Oakland earning her Woman of the Year, for three years in a row. She went on mission trips to Mexico with her church, regularly helped to hand out Gideon Bibles, and feed the homeless, and in her later years, made prayer quilts for 3 Crosses Church. An excellent cook, she enjoyed feeding others, taking road trips, and international travel. She died peacefully at 92, on March 21st, with her daughter, granddaughters and grandson by her side. Friends and family are invited to attend graveside services at 11a.m. Saturday, April 7th in Texarkana, Arkansas at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Richard Posey officiating.
