SHELBA JEAN PURIFOY-FRICKS

A LOVING AND DEDICATED CHILD OF GOD DEPARTED HER EARTHLY HOME ON MAY 7 AT AN UNEXPECTED TIME WHILE WITH A CHERISHED FRIEND IN TEXARKANA. MRS. PURIFOY-FRICKS WAS A CHRISTIAN ROLE MODEL FOR MANY FRIENDS IN THE TEXARKANA AREA WHO LOOKED TO HER FOR SUPPORT IN TIMES OF SORROW, AS WELL AS ON JOYFUL OCCASIONS. MRS. PURIFOY- FRICKS WAS A BEAUTIFUL LADY WITH A VIBRANT PERSONALITY AND ALWAYS HAD A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR ALL THOSE SHE MET, ESPECIALLY AT THE SENIOR ADULT BIBLE STUDIES AND ACTIVITIES AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH WHERE SHE WAS A MEMBER FOR MANY YEARS. BORN IN TEXARKANA, ARKANSAS ON FEBRUARY 14, 1939, MRS. PURFOY-FRICKS SPENT HER CHILDHOOD YEARS WITH HER FATHER AND MOTHER, WILBUR AND HAZEL YOUNGBLOOD AND SIBLINGS IN TEXARKANA. SHE GRADUATED FROM ARKANSAS HIGH SCHOOL IN 1957 WHERE SHE MADE NUMEROUS LIFE-LONG FRIENDS. SHORTLY AFTER GRADUATION, SHE MET LEON PURIFOY AND THEY WERE MARRIED ON AUGUST 31, 1957. THE YOUNG COUPLE MOVED TO LITTLE ROCK WHERE HE WAS PURSUING A CAREER IN MEDICINE. FOLLOWING MEDICAL SCHOOL, THE PURIFOYS SPENT TIME IN FORREST CITY, ARKANSAS BEFORE MOVING TO HOOKS, TEXAS, WHERE DR. PURIFOY ESTABLISHED A MEDICAL CLINIC. AFTER LIVING IN HOOKS, THE PURIFOYS CAME TO TEXARKANA IN 1967. SHELBA JEAN WAS VERY ACTIVE IN CHURCH AND CIVIC EVENTS, FIRST WITH WILLIAMS MEMORIAL METHODIST CHURCH AND LATER AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. SHE SERVED AS A VOLUNTEER WITH THE JUNIOR LEAGUE, COUNSELOR WITH THE FRIENDSHIP CENTER, MEMBER OF THE FBC GOLDEN CIRCLE ADULT BIBLE FELLOWSHIP, ADULT CHOIR, AND SENIOR ADULT CHOIR. SHE WAS ALSO ACTIVE IN A SMALL PRAYER GROUP FOR NUMEROUS YEARS. SHELBA JEAN AND DR. PURIFOY WERE MARRIED FOR 43 YEARS AND ENJOYED MANY WONDERFUL TIMES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS, INCLUDING INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL.

AFTER DR. PURIFOY’S DEATH IN 2000, SHELBA JEAN CONTINUED HER WORK AS A SERVANT OF THE LORD AT FIRST BAPTIST TEXARKANA. SHE ALSO LOVED GROWING BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS IN HER YARD IN WAKE VILLAGE, PLAYING CARDS WITH FRIENDS AND TRAVELING THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND OTHER COUNTRIES WITH THE SENIOR ADULT GROUP. SHE WAS BLESSED WITH A SECOND HUSBAND, LOUIS FRICKS AND THEY WERE MARRIED FOR ALMOST NINE YEARS.

AFTER MR. FRICKS DEATH, SHELBA JEAN CONTINUED HER MANY CHURCH ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING SENIOR ADULT CHOIR, WHERE SHE MET HER CHERISHED FRIEND, MR. BILL TOBEY--SHE INVESTED HER REMAINING YEARS WITH BILL AND THEY FILLED A VOID IN EACH OTHER’S LIFE. THEY EXPERIENCED A JOYFUL LIFE WITH THEIR FAMILIES, THE FIRST BAPTIST FAMILY AND COMMUNITY FRIENDS. SHELBA JEAN AND BILL SPENT MANY HAPPY HOURS WATCHING MOVIES, PLAYING DOMINOES AND CARDS AND WALKING AT BRINGLE LAKE.

MRS.PURIFOY-FRICKS LEAVES BEHIND FOUR ADULT CHILDREN – A SON, CHRIS PURIFOY (BETTY) OF WAKE VILLAGE AND THREE DAUGHTERS – PAM GOLDMAN (RON) OF FRISCO, PEGGY PRILL (SCOTT) OF TEXARKANA AND ELIZABETH ALEXANDER (BRIAN) OF LIBERTY HILL. ALSO SURVIVING ARE A BROTHER, WAYNE YOUNGBLOOD (DORIS) AND A SISTER, LINDA KAY McADAMS, BOTH OF TEXARKANA, NUMEROUS RELATIVES, INCLUDING HER PRECIOUS GRANDCHILDREN ANDREW, MATTHEW, KATIE, HALEY, LUKE AND COLE AND GREAT GRANDSON, NOAH.

SHELBA JEAN WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS, WILBUR AND HAZEL YOUNGBLOOD, HER BROTHER LARRY YOUNGBLOOD AND HUSBANDS, DR. M. LEON PURFOY AND LOUIS FRICKS.

OPEN COME AND GO VISITATION WILL BE WEDNESDAY MAY 13 FROM 11:00 to 5:00 AT EAST FUNERAL HOME-MOORES LANE. GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR MRS. PURIFOY-FRICKS WILL BE HELD ON MAY 14 AT 11:00 A.M. AT CHAPELWOOD CEMETERY WITH REV. LARRY SIMS OFFICIATING.

SHELBA JEAN WAS TRULY AN AMBASSADOR FOR CHRIST, CLAIMING GOD’S “UNFAILING LOVE” (PSALM 94:18) WITH HER EYES FOCUSED ON THE LORD.
