It was with great sadness that I learned of Dave's death. I first met Dave in 1964 at CRCA and really enjoyed working with him for many years as a marshall. I moved on to drive the emergency ambulance for CRCA until nearly the year 2000. Have many fond memories of Dave's joyful disposition and very pleasant personality. Please accept our deep condolences - Dave will be missed.

David grew up in Green River, north east of Markham. His father Alfred was a wood carver, creating beautiful pieces  - trays, sculptures, serving dishes - out of softwood We are fortunate to still have some pieces in our home. But wood carving was not such a profitable profession in those days, and Alfred and Doris had to watch their pennies. 


Our families - the Langilles, the Madsens, the Perrys and the Rosses - were all very close and spent many weekends and vacations together. On this particular Christmas, when I was about 6, we stopped by the Perry's on Christmas day. The kids were sent outside to play while the adults visited. When we came inside, David, who would have been 13 at the time, approached me with a 6-pack case of Coca-Cola, the old fashioned ones in green bottles, and asked if I would like one. Of course, what 6-year old kid wouldn't want a bottle of pop? Without a thought I took one.


After I had consumed the drink I started hunting for the remaining bottles, to have another. I had found it in the kitchen, and asked David if I could have another. He said of course I could, and was just giving it to me when I felt my father's hand on my shoulder.  He quietly took the bottle and put it back, and thanked David for his generosity. In the car on the way home he explained to me that the Coca-Cola was David's Christmas present from Alfred & Doris, and that he had already given me one, and it wasn't right to ask for a second.


But David in his quiet and generous way, was prepared to offer it to me, which I have never forgotten. Delia and Adam, I didn't see much of David in our adult years, but he was a wonderful person and I know you will miss him deeply.

Dear Delia and Adam! Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of David. Our hearts are with you and this difficult time. Our memories of David will never be forgotten! My deepest condolences go out to the Perry family during this most difficult time. My heart goes out to you in the face of your immense loss. I will fondly remember the kindhearted, intelligent and accomplished man that I knew as Mr. Perry. He certainly reminds me of the meaning of community as he represents the consummate good neighbour. Whenever a pack of rambunctious neighbourhood children would show up at the door and fight our way inside to play with Adam, Mr. Perry took the rowdiness in stride. Humble and down to earth, despite all of his achievements and professional stature, Mr. Perry never seemed to look down on anyone, even my chatty childhood self! Even as we kids grew up, and many of us moved away, I was blessed with the opportunity to chat with Mr. Perry, including at the annual community fireworks display that he was instrumental in keeping alive. I always appreciated our discussions as Mr. Perry was engaging and genuine. As such a smart and insightful individual, he always had a nugget of wisdom to share. I am saddened by the news of Mr. Perry’s untimely passing, but I am glad to have known him even in the smallest of ways. What I remember most about David was the love and understanding he gave his wife, Delia, and her love and need for stained glass. He understood the gift it gave her and always came across as supportive and encouraging when they visited the glass studio together.

Dear Delia and Adam: I was so saddened to hear of David's death. My heart goes out to both of you. In my role as the Foundation's editor, I worked with David for 27 years, and after I retired I made sure to always read his contributions to Canadian Tax Highlights. He always made fiscal policy interesting and clear. He was a good friend as well, and was there for me with sound advice. I'll miss him.

I remember David as a researcher and economist with an active interest in public policy. He had a sound analytical mind and a thorough and careful way of presenting the evidence. He was a researcher with a wealth of knowledge and a capacity to diseminate it in a simple and straight foreward manner. He will be sadly missed by the research community, especically those of us who relied on his guidance and expertise. Harry Kitchen
