Agnes Forsyth Kuenkler, a long-time resident of the Baltimore area, died peacefully on Sunday August 18, 2019 at the age of 76. She is predeceased by her sister Marian Weekly. Agnes is survived by her daughter Lydia Hurlbut and son-in-law Shane Hurlbut, and beloved grandchildren Kyra and Myles, of Thousand Oaks, CA. She is also survived by sisters Caroline Elischer, Therese Hare and brother, William Forsyth. Additional surviving family include nieces Verena Keller and Rebecca Koering and nephews Henry Forsyth, Gilbert Forsyth, Edward Forsyth, Christopher Weekly, David Weekly, Thomas Hare and Andrew Hare; first cousins Mary Dusenbury and Lucy Calhoun.
Agnes was born in New York City on May 15, 1943, an identical twin to Caroline, and the first born child of Agnes and Bill Forsyth. She was raised in Manhattan and graduated from The Chapin School in 1961. Agnes married Richard F. Kuenkler in 1963, a musician, historian and minister with whom she shared a love of classical music, art and culture. They moved to Aurora, NY where they had Lydia in 1965. In 1969, Agnes received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Peabody Institute Of The Johns Hopkins University. She loved playing the piano and inspired a love of music in both children and adults throughout her teaching career. In 1986, Agnes changed professions and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Gerontology from Towson University. For the rest of her professional life, she was devoted to the elderly and worked both as a nursing assistant at Church Home and as an in-home health aide.
She had a deep Christian faith and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Augsburg Lutheran Village Chapel community. Agnes enjoyed singing in a variety of church choirs. Her spiritual outreach included a compassion and commitment to serving those less fortunate, the local homeless population and the elderly.
In later life, Agnes enjoyed the company and humor of long-time companion, Ivar Holmquist. They loved traveling to Ocean City, spending time at the Inner Harbor and listening to the music of The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
There will be a memorial service followed by a reception on August 31, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Augsburg Lutheran Home Chapel 6811 Campfield Road, Gwynn Oak, MD 21207 for friends and family to celebrate her life.
