Gabrielle Andrews Gering, 69, of Cockeysille, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019. The 7th of 14 children, Gay, as her friends knew her, was born August 10, 1949 in Eagles Mere, PA to the late Dene D. Andrews and Mary Grace Andrews. A graduate of Geisinger School of Nursing, Gay was proud to be a nurse and worked in many fields. She had a strong passion to always take care of people. After having her children, Gay took a brief reprieve from nursing and became a licensed day care provider so she could spend more time raising her own children. Gay enjoyed being home with her own children as well as caring for others. She took this opportunity to become very involved in the community as well. She was President of the Warren Elementary PTA for a number of years. She successfully helped organize the “Elf” shop at the elementary school as a PTA fundraiser. As her three girls grew, her desire to be involved in their lives grew as well. The girls joined the local swim team, so Gay jumped in with them. She took on the role of leading the swim team. The team grew and experienced success, moving up the ranks into every more competitive levels of the swim league. Already so involved, Gay took things one step further and became a certified stroke and turn judge. Additionally, she organized the community yard sale for 10 years. Gay returned to a full-time nursing career in 1987, this time changing her field to rehab and geriatrics. Gay enjoyed this field very much before retiring in 2005. Gay enjoyed cooking for her family. One of her greatest joys was when the friends of her daughters would gather in her kitchen and bake. She was a great hostess and her heart smiled when she had a full table for dinner. In addition to cooking, Gay also enjoyed gardening and particularly appreciated admiring the colors in her garden as the flowers bloomed. Gay was blessed with great friends and family and will be missed tremendously. Gay is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Bill, her daughter Jennifer and her husband Alton and their four children (Hannah, Quint, William, and Elizabeth). Her daughter Kathleen. Her daughter Julia and her husband Kyle and their two children (Brennen and Liam). Gay was pre-deceased by her brothers (Dene, Mick, Luke, and Pete as well as her sister Lynne. She is survived by her brothers Matthew, Mark and Eric as well as her sisters Patrise, Demetria, Bernadette, Bethany, and Jennifer. Bill, Jenn, Kathleen, and Julia, I am thinking of you all. Thank you for sharing Gay with me and my family--she was a joy in our lives and I'm so grateful to have gotten to call her my Godmother. From many fun visits, an unending stream of birthday and holiday cards, and inspired hand me downs, I am so lucky to have had her, and you all, in my life growing up. May her memory be a blessing to you and all those to whom she shared her generous spirit, love of life, and incredible joy. Sending you love and best wishes from Chicago.

There was not a more gentle, caring, loving individual than Gay.
I have always treasured our friendship, and regretted that loss. Its an opportunity now lost forever.

My heart is saddened for the family's loss. But I know this, the goodness and love that Gay brought to this world will live on in all of the people she touched. And that goodness and love will always be with Willie, Jenn, kathleen, Julia and family.

Gay was the first day care provider to care for our son when I went back to work over 40 years ago. In addition to providing loving care, she became a friend. I treasure those memories. Barry and I send our prayers and heartfelt sympathy to her family.
