Christine Applegate, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Health South Rehabilitation Center in Toms River. Christine was born Dec. 9, 1933 in Shorterville, Ala. to the late Thelma and Lucious Starling. She resided in Toms River for over 50 years and was a longtime member of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
Christine is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Franklin; her children and their spouses, Peggy and Gordon Lynn, Janet Fox and Pat Colangelo, Dorothy and Angel Santos, Frank and Nancy Applegate and Gloria and Jim Kudrick; 13 grandchildren, Hope, Jason, Wayne, Joshua, Kyle, John, Frank, Brian, Robbie, Matthew, Christian, Joey and Heather; five great-grandchildren, Jenna, Mack, Jordan, Ashley and Landon; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Rayford Starling, Perry Starling, Frank and Maryann Starling, James and Abby Starling and Gracie and Bobby Dutton. She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy and Virginia Starling; and her brother, Lowell Starling.
Christine was a cook for many years at Casa Joey's, Geno's and Olsen's Bar and Grill and a longtime caregiver for her niece, Beth Graham. She enjoyed church, country music, bingo and more than anything, her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Christine was the heart and soul of her family and was "Mom" to many.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, with a funeral service at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 797 Bay Ave., Toms River, NJ in her memory.
